FRÉDÉRIQUE HUTTER art concept freut sich über die Weiterführung der Zusammenarbeit mit WALDE im “Haus der Immobilien“, einem 1985 von den Architekten Rudolf & Esther Guyer gebauten imposanten postmodernen Gebäude. Als weitere Ausstellung der neuen Reihe „Kunst im Haus der Immobilien“ zeigen wir eine Einzelausstellung der Künstlerin Nici Jost.

Was sagt Ihnen die Farbe Pink? Welche Erinnerungen, Assoziationen oder Empfindungen
haben Sie bei dieser Farbe? Zieht Sie Pink an? Seit 20 Jahren erforscht die in der Schweiz lebende Künstlerin und Fotografin Nici Jost (*1984, Banff, Kanada) die Wirkung der Farbe Pink – ihre Geschichte sowie ihre gesellschaftliche und politische Verbindung. Pink fasziniert die Künstlerin, ist es doch eine Farbe in vielen Nuancen, die zugleich anzieht und polarisiert, manchmal sanft, aber auch schrill sein kann, naiv und gleichzeitig aufgeladen im kommerziellen, politischen und gesellschaftlichen Kontext. Diese
Ausstellung zeigt das grosse Spektrum im Schaffen Nici Josts, indem sich die Arbeiten fluide zwischen angewandter und freier Fotografie bewegen und die Schnittstelle von Kunst, Design und Technologie ergründen.

Die Ausstellung zeigt Extrakte aus verschiedenen wichtigen Projekten, die das Schaffen von Jost widerspiegeln. Im Projekt Unity Pink die Kooperation Nici Josts mit der Risa Hutwerkstatt und beleuchtet damit das Zusammenspiel von Mode, Fotografie und Technologie. Entstanden ist ein spezieller pinkfarbener Hut, der auf die Auswirkungen von Sommerhitze und damit auf den Klimawandel reagiert. Gezeigt wird auch das Pink Colour System der Künstlerin. Ausgehend von einer Analyse ihrer umfangreichen Sammlung
an pinkfarbenen (Konsum-) Objekten hat sie ein zehnteiliges Farbsystem entworfen, um damit die einzelnen Farbtöne in einen gesellschaftlichen und politischen Kontext zu stellen. Ebenso wird hier das GJ504b Project ausgestellt. Darin erforscht die Künstlerin, in Zusammenarbeit mit Nadine Friedel, auf spekulative Weise sowie unter Einbezug von wissenschaftlicher Expertise und einer künstlichen Intelligenz die Farbe Pink im Weltraum. Das Projekt Land of Peach Blossom – die Farbe Rosa in China beleuchtet die Farbe Rosa im chinesischen Kulturkontext und dortigen Alltag. In diesem Zusammenhang verbrachte Nici Jost sechs Monate in Shanghai, wo sie die Verwendung, Wahrnehmung und Benennung der Farbe Pink untersuchte. Es werden noch einzelne Werke aus der Serie Recycling Art – Pretty in Pink, 2015 gezeigt. Nici Jost bietet Künstlerinnen an, ungenutzte oder unerwünschte Werke zu recyceln. Sie sammelt die Arbeiten ein, übermalt oder lackiert sie vollständig in seidigem Rosa, sodass nur noch die ursprünglichen Formen sichtbar bleiben. Dabei dokumentiert sie, welche Künstlerinnen wie viel Material beigesteuert haben. Voraussetzung ist ein „Recycling Ticket“, mit dem die Autorenschaft

an Jost übergeht. Aus den recycelten Werken entstehen neue, konzeptionell eigenständige Arbeiten, die sich gegenseitig kommentieren und durch ihre verfremdete Form, Materialität und Oberfläche neue Assoziationen eröffnen

FRÉDÉRIQUE HUTTER art concept is pleased to continue its collaboration with WALDE in the “House of Real Estate”, an imposing postmodern building constructed in 1985 by the architects Rudolf & Esther Guyer. As the next exhibition in the new series “Art in the House of Real Estate”, we are presenting a solo exhibition by the artist Nici Jost.
What does the colour pink mean to you? What memories, associations or feelings do you have when you think of this colour? Are you drawn to pink? For 20 years, the Switzerland-based artist and photographer Nici Jost (*1984, Banff, Canada) has been exploring the impact of the colour pink – its history as well as its social and political connections. Pink fascinates the artist; it is a colour with many nuances, at once attractive and polarising, sometimes gentle but also loud, naïve and at the same time charged in commercial, political and social contexts. This exhibition presents the wide spectrum in Nici Jost’s work, as the pieces move fluidly between applied and artistic photography and explore the intersection of art, design and technology.
The exhibition presents extracts from several important projects that reflect Jost’s practice. The project Unity Pink focuses on Nici Jost’s collaboration with Risa Hutwerkstatt and highlights the interplay of fashion, photography and technology. The result is a special pink hat that reacts to the effects of summer heat and thus to climate change. The artist’s Pink Colour System is also presented. Based on an analysis of her extensive collection of pink (consumer) objects, she has developed a ten-part colour system in order to situate the individual shades of pink within a social and political context. The GJ504b Project is also on view. In this work, the artist explores, in collaboration with Nadine Friedel, the colour pink in outer space in a speculative way, drawing on scientific expertise and artificial intelligence. The Project Land of Peach Blossom – The Colour Pink in China sheds light on the colour pink within the Chinese cultural context and in everyday life. In this context, Nici Jost spent six months in Shanghai, where she examined the use, perception and naming of the colour pink. Individual works from the series Recycling Art – Pretty in Pink, 2015 are also shown. Nici Jost offers women artists the opportunity to recycle unused or unwanted works. She collects the pieces and paints or coats them entirely in silky pink so that only the original forms remain visible. In doing so, she documents which artists have contributed how much material. A prerequisite is a “Recycling Ticket”, through which authorship is transferred to Jost. From the recycled works, new, conceptually independent pieces emerge that comment on one another and, through their alienated form, materiality and surface, open up new associations.
