BELETAGE art, books & design präsentiert im Rahmen der Reihe „THE SHELF – die kuratierte Wohnwand“ die Künstlerin Estelle Gassmann mit ihrem poetischen Beitrag.
Leere Regalfächer verwandeln sich durch ihre Keramiken in kleine Bühnen – jedes Objekt erzählt seine eigene Geschichte.
Estelle Gassmann schafft Gefässe und dreidimensionale Collagen aus Keramik. Ihr künstlerisches Interesse gilt der Begegnung kontrastreicher Materialien, Bearbeitungstechniken, Strukturen und Bilder, die sie assoziativ und intuitiv miteinander in Beziehung setzt. Besonders fasziniert sie der Entstehungsprozess selbst: Einerseits unterliegt er unvorhersehbaren Faktoren – etwa dem Zusammenspiel von Glasur und Porzellan, die im Brand über die Oberflächen fliessen und Motive mit sich ziehen. Andererseits steuert sie das Geschehen präzise durch feine Schnitzereien und die sorgfältige Abstimmung auf die umliegenden Bildelemente.
Das fotografische Bild spielt dabei eine zentrale Rolle: In Kombination mit haptischen Glasuren und Reliefs entsteht eine spannungsvolle Oberfläche. Die Fotografien – Momentaufnahmen aus ihrem Alltag als Gestalterin und Reisende – transportieren Stimmungen, Erinnerungen oder sachliche Informationen. Durch die Hitze des Ofens werden sie dauerhaft eingebrannt, verblassen, verziehen oder verformen sich und eröffnen so neue, unerwartete Details: kleine Welten, Szenerien und Bühnen für die Fantasie.
Ihr Ziel ist es, trotz der offensichtlichen Gegensätze von Struktur und Material harmonische, in sich geschlossene Gebilde zu schaffen, die dem Blick eine lebendige Bewegung im Material offenbaren.
Die Installation ist bis zum Abschluss des Projekts BELETAGE zu sehen.

As part of the series ‘THE SHELF – the curated living wall’, BELETAGE art, books & design presents the artist Estelle Gassmann with her poetic contribution.
Empty shelves are transformed into small stages by her ceramics – each object tells its own story.
Estelle Gassmann creates vessels and three-dimensional collages from ceramics. Her artistic interest lies in the encounter between contrasting materials, processing techniques, structures and images, which she relates to each other associatively and intuitively. She is particularly fascinated by the creative process itself: on the one hand, it is subject to unpredictable factors – such as the interplay of glaze and porcelain, which flow over the surfaces during firing and carry motifs with them. On the other hand, she precisely controls the process through fine carvings and careful coordination with the surrounding image elements.
The photographic image plays a central role in this: in combination with haptic glazes and reliefs, an exciting surface is created. The photographs – snapshots from her everyday life as a designer and traveller – convey moods, memories or factual information. The heat of the kiln permanently burns them in, causing them to fade, warp or deform, thus revealing new, unexpected details: small worlds, scenes and stages for the imagination.
Her aim is to create harmonious, self-contained structures that reveal a lively movement in the material to the eye, despite the obvious contrasts in structure and material.
The installation will be on display until the completion of the BELETAGE project.
